Graal Online was a game that practically defined my childhood. Its integration of player-created content and easily-accessible editing tools were a godsend for anyone who wanted to dabble in creating something for a videogame and sharing it with others, and the sprawling worlds that would spring up from all these different bits and pieces were a wonder to explore... at least to me.
Nowadays the game is a shadow of its former self, having fallen victim to the "mobile gaming" mindset. While it is still more unique and enjoyable than most mobile games on the market, its core goal remains the same as the rest of them: to addict its playerbase and monetize the things you used to get for free.
This piece, this level, this lake of tears... It's a way for me to both mourn what was,
and to hold onto every scrap of it that I managed to take with me into the present.
This piece is built on top of the numerous archives of Graal content that its communities had developed across its many years, and its music was generated the same way Graal's default soundtrack was: by using MicroSoft Music Producer.
Obviously, I do not intend to take credit for any of Graal's assets. I only created the layout of the area and the weeping statue above. The music, again, was generated using MSMP.
The music inspired the location.
It felt like a perfect match.
