Announced on April 5th, 2022 and developed by Tendershoot and Noble Robot, Dreamsettler was slated to be a sequel to the acclaimed internet simulator-slash-detective game Hypnospace Outlaw. On June 16th, Jay Tholen put out a tweet calling for animators who loved the original game and knew how to capture the essence of the early 2000's era of Flash animation. I reacted immediately, whipped up an example of my work in a frenzied three hours and sent it in as soon as I was able... and was hired on the spot!

Unfortunately, DreamSettler's cancellation was announced on June 20th, 2025 following a mutual decision between Tholen and publisher No More Robots. The news was heartbreaking, both for the eager fans and the team that put their hearts and souls into this project, but we can at least still share what we created with the world.

This is an archive of all the work I did on "Oomph", the Trennisverse equivalent of Flash, in all its faux-vintage so-bad-it's-good glory.

And if you're looking for more DreamSettler stuff, be sure to check out Geotrackz' comprehensive archive, Pixelrino's pages, Hrabb's incredible work on "Czechimation" and keep an eye on Hot Dad for new Chowderman songs!

Gumshoe Gooper Blows The Case

The animation that got me hired! A simple Gumshoe Gooper cartoon that has a little bit of everything. We've got tweens, we've got gradients, we've got that explosion effect everyone and their grandma used back in the day!

Fun fact: Though it was obviously intended to be replaced with original music in the final product, the track playing in the back of this cartoon was lifted from the Just Cause 1 soundtrack.

"Oomph" Asset Library

The in-universe Oomph software was to come bundled with a library of professional pre-made assets that animators could use in their work. As such, a handful of these appear in many of the cartoons below!

I remember we talked about the fact that the company behind Oomph probably wouldn't want blood splatters in their default effects package, so we decided they would just be ordinary blue water splash effects that animators turned red in post.

The original plan was to actually allow players to use the software and create animations themselves, but this sadly fell through well before the game's ultimate cancellation.

StickyZ - SquisherZ Gone Bad

Back in the early days of the internet, one question weighed on everybody's minds:
What if Pokémon... SMOKED WEED???
Naturally, I figured the Trennisverse wouldn't be complete without its own version of that phenomenon.

Everyone seemed to want to make their own irreverent sitcom back in the day, and this is an affectionate parody of every last one of those delightfully childish spoofs. Probably the funniest unfunny thing I've ever made!

Ewsic Video

"Ew" was to be an anti-commercial music genre and youth culture movement centered around an ideology of remaining forever out-of-fashion and repulsive so as to never be pressured to conform to norms. Hence, this music video!

Features an Ew test composition by Jay himself!

Texarkana Tribute

When two hurricanes converged and stalled over Texarkana for six days causing untold destruction and political upheaval, there was only one logical way to spread awareness and support for the people affected by the disaster:

Tacky, tone-deaf tribute animations.

As this animation contained a clip from a never-before-heard Chowderman song, I am withholding the audio portion of this animation until he can release his music on his own terms.

Gina and the Toast Ghost

The landscape of early 2000's Flash animations wouldn't be complete if we didn't represent the puppet rig style! I was assured this wasn't too blatantly ripping off LegendaryFrog, but I have a feeling anyone familiar with that name would clock the influence right away. BWL!

Sprite Fight

And speaking of things that the Flash landscape wouldn't be complete without: obligatory sprite animations of beloved mascots arbitrarily beating the everloving crap out of one another! We need to figure out who's winning the console wars somehow, after all.

The terrible little background loop was composed by your's truly!

Fist Fight

A vaguely Dragon Ball Z-esque battle animation meant to represent the somewhat more high-effort side of the Oomph animator community, as well as try to inject a bit more of that Czechimation inspiration into things. I was hoping to do more with this and give it its own identity somewhere down the line, but alas...

Gun Fight

A very basic little scrap showcasing the majority of 00's flash cartoons: gratuitous gun violence! Everybody wanted to make their own version of Madness Combat back then, and I can easily imagine a lot of edgy teenagers getting their hands on Oomph to vent their frustrations through animated art.

Pizza Dance

This one was not going to be in the game. This was a joke.
