Hondo

Hondo (Brian McClelland) was a level designer who made a handful of maps for Half-Life mods like Action Quake 2, Action Half-Life and Scientist Hunt.

Hondo's maps became relatively well-known (particularly among the Action Half-Life crowd) for the incredibly cryptic and elaborate secrets that were hidden within them, some of which even encouraged the players of an all-deathmatch game to work together to find the solutions to Hondo's mysteries.

Players would scour these maps for hours and days and weeks just to find the final link in the puzzle, and still not be sure if they'd seen all there was to see.
A Hondo map is an experience like no other.

As Action Half-Life's glory days are long behind us, Hondo's work is on the verge of becoming lost media. As such, this page exists to preserve these maps for posterity.

In keeping with the spirit of Hondo's work, only his original hints will be put on display - solutions to Hondo's secrets will not be shared here.

Unless otherwise specified, these maps can only be played in Action Half-Life.

Hondo's Death House
July, 2000

The following map does not appear to house a horrible, horrible secret.
However, in the interest of being a map Hondo worked on to some extent, I have decided to include it regardless.

Hondo was also involved for most (if not all?) of the maps made for the Half-Life mod "Scientist Hunt", all of which are included with the mod itself.
Note that the only Scientist Hunt maps that appear to house horrible, horrible secrets also contain these secrets in their Action Half-Life counterparts, and as such have already been listed above.
